Senior Kavya Anjur has recently been one of two Illinois students to be selected for the National Youth Science Camp, a science academy-based camp in West Virginia that goes from June-early July.

What are participants including you going to do or learn at the summer camp?
We get to do research presentations, hands-on studies, attend science lectures, [participate in] outdoor adventures like zip lining and kayaking, and attend events and take tours in Washington D.C.

What was the process to get selected for this scholarship opportunity? What did you have to submit or write about?
I [got] an application where I wrote an introduction letter/essay, submitted my research, resume, and letter of recommendation. I actually found out about this camp from Mrs. Corlew, my AP Bio teacher.

Who is your source of inspiration when it comes to academic achievement?
My parents are my source of inspiration because they moved here from India to further pursue their educations, and have worked tirelessly to build a life here. They instilled in me the values of education and helped fuel my passion for learning.

What other activities are you involved in at Metea?
I’m involved in marching band, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE), French honor society, biology Olympiad, and a few others.

What college(s) are you planning on going to, and what do you plan to major in?
Right now, I will most likely be attending Johns Hopkins University for biomedical engineering and pre-medicine.
