“Doctor Strange” adds itself to list of best Marvel movies

Doctor+Strange+adds+itself+to+list+of+best+Marvel+movies

Marvel never fails to create movies that get people talking, and “Doctor Strange” is no exception. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the latest installment in the Marvel universe topped the worldwide box office at nearly $500 million and earned itself a 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. While it has all the usual epic fight sequences, destruction of buildings, and wrecking-the-whole-city scenes, the graphics seen in this movie may just leave you feeling a bit disoriented. The movie uses CGI and visual effects that capture what it would be like to live in a world that includes magic, alternate dimensions, and different realms. The film was shot in several locations, including New York City, Kathmandu in Nepal, Hong Kong, and London.

The actors in the film did a phenomenal job portraying their respective characters. The movie included actors like Benedict Cumberbatch (“Sherlock,” “The Imitation Game”), Tilda Swinton (“Narnia”), Rachel McAdams (“The Notebook”), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years A Slave”).

Cumberbatch perfectly captures the arrogance of Doctor Stephen Strange, a renowned albeit egotistical neurosurgeon. Cumberbatch provides a funny, fresh take on the usual arrogant superhero character, which we see with someone like Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.

The storyline didn’t deviate too much from the original comic. It follows the events that take place after Dr. Strange is involved in a terrible accident that leaves him unable to do that which he is best at (surgery), and he travels to a distant land to try to find a solution to his problem. Little does he know, what he seeks is not actually what he needs– there’s a shocker. The arrogant surgeon discovers a world that revolves around spirituality and magic, and a mentor who knocks his ego down a few notches. It is there that he meets the Ancient One, portrayed by award-winning actress Tilda Swinton, whom many know as the witch from “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.”

Critics and fans alike had similar things to say about “Doctor Strange.” Wendy Ide from The Guardian calls it “visually distinctive” and “classy cast”, giving it four out of five stars; on IMDb, the film received an eight out of ten. Many call the film unique, such as Manohla Dargis of the New York Times, who says “the special effects in ‘Doctor Strange’ serve beauty and meaning rather than the grimly tedious destruction that drains energy out of most contemporary superhero movies.”

I give the movie four out of five stars. The awe-inspiring visuals combined with the brilliant acting from the cast create a movie that will definitely go down as one of the best in Marvel’s line of films.

I wonder if they’ll end up giving scarlet witch the kind of power that she really has, cuz the MCU is apparently fine with taking that leap into the multiverse
